Programming, at least for me, is a strange thing: you learn how to do certain things in your programs, and that knowledge stays in your head for a short while, but while you might be perfectly au fait with one little corner of your programming language, you'll remain ignorant in most others. Maybe I suffer from this more than real programmers because I got the program free, without a manual: I can only learn by example, and by reading the often unhelpful help files. I did think about doing a Shavian translation program, and I decided that it would be best to base it on a database, whose table would have two columns -- one for Roman words, and one for their Shavian equivalents... But I took a look at some of Delphi's sample database programs, and couldn't quite figure them out. I'm sure I could work it out if I spent some more time on it, but at the time I just couldn't be bothered. So I thought I'd wait until Andy produced his program. It's his idea, anyway -- and he's already worked out how to interface his program with a pre-written phonetic dictionary. Andy, what programming language are you going to write TPT 2000 in?

Actually, in my case I'm writing a program that simulates soil erosion.
That's why TPT has been standing still (one of the reasons, anyway). But in
the case of the Democrats, they're just eroding.
Actually, here in Oz, we have a slightly different political system. Here
you have to be completely eroded before you can join...

The front end will be written in VB. The meat of the program will be the
engine from the current version, which is written in PowerBASIC Console
Compiler, and will be rewritten as a DLL. In short, it will be the current
version with a VB GUI instead of the cruddy "DOS" version. But I will add
some bells & whistles.

Dear fellow Shavianists,

I promised someone to send him some Asterix comics in Plattdeutsch (Low German) in return for something he sent me. However, to my disgrace I can't remember who that was. Will the rightful recipient of the books please stand up? (And send me his mailing address.)

(P.S.: It's really annoying trying to type the same message first in Shavian and then in English... I keep trying to type Shavian abbreviations and spelling; for example "to come" might end up as "t kum"...)
