Now I realise why people release beta versions of programs. The splash screen in the previous version of Ghoti Fingers has been removed, because it was causing problems for some people. There's also a new "Keep on top" option, so that you can overlap the Ghoti Fingers window with your target window, keeping the GF window on top.

I'm having trouble with the help file. If I click Help, it just tells me it
cannot execute the application. Then it tells me I need a newer version of
HHCTRLOCX. Is there any reason why you are using compiled HTML instead of
the plain vanilla version?
Apart from this little glitch it looks like quite a useful application.
Keep up the good work.

I'm using HTML Help because it lets me distribute my help documentation as a single file, rather than as a group of HTML files and images. As far as I understand it, HTML Help has superseded Microsoft's old-style help format. It's also much easier to compile: you just write your HTML pages as if you were creating a web site, then feed them into the compiler. Best of all, Microsoft are giving the compiler away for free, fiendish monopolising monsters that they are.
You should be able to view my help file properly if you have the latest version of Internet Explorer installed. Alternatively, you can download the HTML Help Installation and Update Package from http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/htmlhelp/localize.asp .
If you're still having problems, let me know and I'll put the source HTML files up on my web site. The reason I haven't done that already is that it would make it more fiddly for me to keep both versions up to date.

Toggle Shavian
A few days ago I started a temporary job as a cataloguer in a public
library in London. Today I was cataloguing a book about Shaw's
Pygmalion, so I idly checked the catalogue for the bi-alphabetical
edition of Androcles and the lion. To my surprise there was an entry
for the book and its location was a book store on the floor below.
The chief cataloguer and I went to look - and found the book in a small
cupboard. I have it with me now. It is a presentation copy, hardback,
bound with black cloth. With it is a separate reading key on a piece of
card. It was last borrowed in 1973.
Discussions have started with the library as to how badly it still
wants this book. (As a librarian I can't really pinch it.) Anyway, I
thought I would share this discovery with you - there must be other
copies out there somewhere!

Yes, these were the "Trustees'" copies that were presented to libraries in English speaking countries.
I don't have any idea how many are still around. I finally located one through an antiquarian book dealer in Canada a while back; paid US$25 for it.
They really are lovely little volumes--great binding, good quality paper. Amazingly different from the standard paperback, my copy of which is yellowed and crumbling and on the verge of completely fallng apart.

Dear fellow-Shavians,
I found a copy of the Androcles and the Lion bi-spelling system in my
public library in Washington, USA. Since the book is no longer
available, I xeroxed it. I hope I haven't violated anyone's copyright.
If it is legal to do so, I will copy these pages for other Shavians at
cost of copying plus postage to your address, and mail it to you.
I am also eager to exchange with other people writings they have done in
Shavian script, so that I would be able to practice reading it.
Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Daniel G. Szczurek, MST, PhD

Dear Sir,
I sould not read your message because I have not yet downloaded a
Shavian font. I will try to do so today, if I can find one that will
download to an Apple, and can figure out how to do it. I'm not terribly
computer literate, but will attempt this. If you know anything about the
location of a font and how to download it and use it in communication, I
would be most grateful.
Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Daniel G. Szczurek
