HI,

I have downloaded the font as in
https://www.google.com/get/noto/pkgs/NotoSansShavian-unhinted.zip
and installed it, and I see it among the fonts in Windows/fonts.

But,
I am afraid your boxes of uni-code remain boxes of unicode.

I looked at you links
>> One could use
>> http://pok.heliohost.org/eo/tools/Sxava/sxava.sed
But, I don't know what to do with them.

Your guidance please ?

You did not tell us, what your mailer is. Probably your program is
not clever enough, and you have to specify the font to use for
"Shavian" (or, if it is not known to the selection menu, for
"Other Writing Systems").

In my case Firefox and Emacs Gnus detect the available Shavian fonts
automatically.

To check the font you could copy-paste the "boxes of Unicode" into
Word or LibreOffice editor, select them and set the Shavian font
for the selected region. This should work.

FH> I looked at you links
>>> One could use
>>> http://pok.heliohost.org/eo/tools/Sxava/sxava.sed

FH> Your guidance please ?

Please have a look at
http://pok.heliohost.org/eo/tools/Sxava/sxava.html#sec27
(in Esperanto). It works from a Unix console (or in Cygwin, if
you are in Windows; don't know about the DOS console):

--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
% echo provo | sxava.sed
๐‘๐‘ฎ๐‘ฉ๐‘๐‘ฉ
% echo provo | sxava8.sed
๐‘๐‘ฎ๐‘ฉ๐‘๐‘ฉ
%
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---

The second script (sxava8.sed) would print onto console if you
the console font contains Shavian letters (NotoSansShavian-unhinted
seems to be proportional, and it does not contain ASCII anyway, so
it cannot be used as a terminal font). But you could save the
result in a file:

--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
% echo provo | sxava8.sed > provo.txt
% sxava.sed < from.txt > to.txt
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---

But I doubt it should work under Windows without Cygwin or some
other kind of binutils and sed.

Hi there,

Yes Font works in "Word"
Thank you.

It seems my eMail handlers
( I use gmail. yahoomail, and hotmail )
will not let me add a font.

No matter,
at least now I can copy/paste as you suggest
and read what I need.

Thank you for help,
Regards, Frank

As you may know, I have a blog that started out in Orthodox, but ever since May 2013 I've been posting in Quikscript.

Today I'm pleased to announce that the blog's focus will change. Here's an Orthodox adaptation for those who can't read https://www.frogorbits.com/blog/2015/first-shaw/ in a reasonable amount of time:

----------8<-------------
I'd like to announce that the Frog Orbits blog is now moving to an all-Shavian format. In keeping with blog policy, old posts will not be converted.

The move to Shavian will improve the blog in the following ways:

- unification of ยทWhy and ยทWay for better "would you like some cheese with that whine?" rhetorical questions
- absence of txtspeak-presaging abbreviations like "ppl" will speed reading
- moving away from the PUA will improve rendering in IE

It's only the first of April; later this month I'll release ports of King Kong to Shavian.
----------8<-------------

All the best,
Nathan

I certainly hope so, However, I regret that you find it a positive feature of his alphabet that Kingsley Read, between his Shavian competition entry and Quickscript, was persuaded to drop his โ€˜hwโ€™ letter (a letter Shaw thought desirable)โ€”perhaps only to secure an even number of consonants. There are alas, still some of us who insist now and then upon at least the right, if we dare, to whine about poor wine (and to enjoy the playful ambiguity contained in the phrase โ€˜wining and diningโ€™), who wonder whether the weather will be fine tomorrow, and care not a whit for excessive wit. And to hear โ€˜Our Father, witch art in heavenโ€™ is simply dreadful. Hwat a bother! Hwy scrap a useful distinction hwen it requires (a slight aspiration only) so little effort?

Howโ€™s that for a bit of whining?
