What exactly does one do when writing titles such as Mr, Ms, and
Mrs? Is it acceptable to simply spell out "mister," or is there

I just change the letters into Shavian. No fuss!

Mr: /mr
Ms: /ms (I've never really used this prefix)
Mrs: /mrs
Dr: /dr

Thanks Hugh...I'm currently working on a transliteration of
Shaw's "Overruled" as a school project. I am an American, so I am
subject to that whole deal of not pronouncing a difference between
some letters("on" and "ah" being the most frequent).

In my transliteration, I am not attempting to distinguish differences
that are hard for me to hear. I figure that I should at least be
consistent, and use the same letter. For example, when in a
situation where "on" or "ah" could be used, I always use "on."

Is this acceptable to do?

My opinion: pick a system that represents your speech and stick to it.
Basically, do what you described. If you do not make a consistent difference
between two sounds, then (IMO) it's fine to use only one Shavian latter;
you'd be representing your dialect (idiolect, really) that way. Just as I
(who speak a more RP-oid English) wouldn't distinguish between "horse" and
"hoarse", or "which" and "witch", even though some varieties (though not the
standard on which Shavian is based) do.

There was an interminable discussion (or so I felt) on a "good"
representation of American English with Shavian... let's not start that up
over again.

Hi Mike & Hugh

The Namer Dot as well as indicating a Proper Name, normally marked
in the Roman Alphabet by Capitalization, has been expanded to handle
some Abbreviations, such as the exemples attached.
Foreign words would also require the Namer dot.
Please note however that when the Abbreviation is pronounced either
as a new word, (i.e. NATO, SCUBA, SNAFU, RADAR, Fortran) or as
pronounced string of Roman Letter names, (i.e. USA, UK, OK, ABCs, UN,
CIBC, EU, USSR, IBM) as in a country or company name, it requires a
phonetic spelling. A namer dot is still required for these Proper
names.

In traditional Shavian there are only a few words where 'ah' is used, anyway! Words like "psalm", "father", "palm", "calm", "Saddam", "qualm", etc etc etc

That's good...I did use "ah" in father, so that means I'm doing
something correctly. I seem to be using "err" and "up" quite a bit,
does anyone know if this is normal for my dialect?

IMHO as a fellow American, one who believes that there should be little
if any difference between American and British/other spelling in
Shavian, I'd say "err" and "up" should not be used anywhere near as much
as their unstressed counterparts, "array" and "ado". Many of us prefer
to use the former two letters only in stressed positions in words. I'd
use "up" in "something" and "does" below, but not "dialect" or
"American". And I would use "err" in "word" and "prefer", but not
"father", letter, or "preference".

Hi Craig

I agree with you in that I prefer to use array and ado by default,
and only use Err and Up when those sounds are uncommonly stressed out.
Say for example when those 2 sounds start a syllable. (i.e. Rich-ard,
Seven-Up, Umbrella, Urge and the A in Available.)

As a counter example, in the words Mirror and Murder, I would always
use the Shaw Letter Array.

such letters, where their is such a slight distinction in American
Pronunciation.
