Hey, Phillip, take a look at my font ESL Gothic Unicode. You can get it at
http://www.30below.com/~ethanl/fonts.html
This font contains all the characters at their proper code points, and is one of
the few fonts available with the Shavian characters in plane 1, perhaps the
first ever. I have encountered one other, but don't remember where it is at the
moment. That one didn't include Latin characters, but mine does.
I don't remember the code point for the namer dot, but if you can load my font
into your editor, you should be able to find it. I believe it's in the extended
ascii area, not far above character 128. It's called "middle dot" in Unicode
parlance.
I use a free program called PfaEdit, which can be found at
http://pfaedit.sourceforge.net/
The software is designed for the various versions of Unix, and Mac OS X is
included. There is a Windows version, but I've never used it. You have to
install the Cygwin libraries, which essentially creates a Unix-like environment
on your Windows machine, and allows you to run Unix programs like PfaEdit under
Windows. This may be further than you wish to go for one program, if you use
Windows. If this is the case, I would be more than willing to convert your
fonts for you.

I located the character point for the middle dot. It's U+00B7 and can be found
by name in the names list at
http://www.unicode.org/charts/charindex2.html
It was listed as the proper punctuation to use, in the proposal for Shavian. I
don't know why they didn't list it in the final code chart, but then I don't
believe any punctuation marks are listed in the code charts for various
alphabets.

*nods* I was going to suggest this as well. The proposal is at
http://www.unicode.org/pending/shavian/shavian.html , by the way.

Right. Unless the punctuation mark is specific to that alphabet.
For example, the Greek question mark is not part of the Greek block
since ... oops, I lied. But the Unicode standard says that U+003B ; is
preferred, and similarly for the Greek "ano teleia", for which one
should use U+00B7 MIDDLE DOT.
As a counter-example, there's U+0589 ARMENIAN FULL STOP and U+1361 ..
U+1368 (various Ethiopic punctuation) since those characters are
specific to that particular script and couldn't be unified with Latin
characters such as the colon or middle dot.
Cheers,
Philip

Hi Philip D.
I prefer to use the ASTERISK "*" as a Namer Dot.
In lieu of anything better?

Paul, the problem I see with this is that in some applications, the
asterisk is used also as a formatting aide, i.e. it makes normal print
into bold print in some desktop publishing apps. I wish we did have an
easy key to use, but I'm all for using q, with nothing as Q, if you
catch my drift.
