Yeah, even my mail application complained. It seems it is because the yahoo list modified my message after I sent it and the checksums no longer matched. I will try to remember not to put a signature on files I send to this list.

Hi Scott

I have to disagree with your emphathsis.
You suggest it would be difficult to convert Shavian writing into
regular Eglish text witten in Roman Letters.
While writing an effective Shavian to Roman Alphabet translator
would not be trivial, it is hardly challenging from a technical
point of view.
I would suggest breaking the transliteration process into 4 simple
steps.
1. Convert each Shavian Letter into its Roman equivalent or most
common Diagraph equivalent. (i.e. Church -> ch, peep -> p,
hung -> ng, yew -> yu,
Ian-> ia, Thigh -> th, They -> th, ate -> ei, etc.)
2. Spell check and correct the results.
3. Make up a list of exceptional words, that are not spell checked
correctly, and write a little filter program to find and replace
them.
4. Make up a list of common Homonyms, and flag them with an
asterisk, as having an alternate spelling.

I am sure the resulting Roman text ouput from this process would be
quite readable. With some additional steps, to determine from
context whether the noun or verb version of the homonym should be
used, I think the result would be even better.

Yes, it could do well on a tablet or PDA. However, to interact with
the rest of the world data entered in Shavian would need to be
exportable in Roman. Therefore, the device would need at a minimum a
Shavian to Roman translator. And this would not necessarily be trivial
since, for example, the word 𐑮𐑰𐑛 in Shavian can be read or reed in
Roman. And then of course if one wants to limit ones reading to
Shavian one would need the reverse, a Roman to Shavian translator.
With Grafitti one needs no translation since each character maps
directly to Roman.

Conversion may not be necessary. I want a PDA that will handle
whatever I give it. It would be nice to run in Shavian and still be
able to use Graffiti and Roman as well.

There has to be a way to get rid of the spam, or at least get
away from it. I'm not about to leave this group. I just wanted to
say that I hate all spam. I had 77 new spam messages in my mailbox
today. So far, it seems like a pretty good day.
If they have to spam us, they could at least make some attempt
at selective advertising. This is a group about Shavian--so why
mortgages and debt relief? God forbit that the spammers should
advertise something I might like and take their other spam to
another group.

privately-hosted list. Without a moderator there's no way to ban those
