The second what? second millenium? second decade? second coming? [g]

Incidentally, I ran a little program on my 'puter that told me it was "non
rollover compliant" in other words, when it got to 31/12/1999 (or
12/31/1999) at 23:59:59, it would then roll over to 01/01/80 as it could
not handle the change to 2000. Guess what? It could. Now I'm wondering how
many of the machines we replaced at my workplace would also have rolled
over successfully. Were the last 3 months of mayhem all in vain? Did we go
through all that for nothing? Ah well...

We did go thru all of it for nothing. I have two machines here, one of them
being an almost brand new 'millennium compliant' Pentium II, and the other
being a five-year-old Pentium 90 which, I was told by a similar program, was
NOT millennium compliant. I didn't do anything about it.

I came back a few hours ago to discover the date on the machine: 01/01/2000.
Funny that...

Subject: [shavian] 'Androcles & the Lion' info?

Toggle Shavian
Thirty years ago I learned to read Shavian (and to speak for a while in a
rather British English) by reading _Androcles and the Lion_ in its
two-alphabet version. That was a copy borrowed from my high school library.
Now I'm hoping to buy a copy to keep. The book searches I've done online
don't give me any indication of whether the books they list have the
Shavian version. I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me the publisher
and date of publication so I might recognize it in these listings.

And of course I'd be delighted if someone can tell me where a copy is
available for sale.

Many thankss,
David Lemon

(By the way, Neil, I loved your "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" piece, ready just in time for Santa.)

I've got mine done a bit early. I'll post it to the group, but it's also in the Shavian eGroup Vault, in the 'texts' folder. It was produced using my Shavian transliteration program, Ghoti Filleter. Anyone who wants a copy of the current beta version can still have one if they email me.

Subject: [shavian] Quikscript

Toggle Shavian
I just discovered this group this evening. I was surprised to find
real people actually interested in Shawscript. My only regret is that
after corresponding with Kingsley Read some thirty years ago, he sent
me a Quikscript manual, and I stopped using Shawscript, which I had
initially learned and switched over to Quikscript. Now I find it
difficult to read the Shawscript, especially since some of its letters
represent different sounds in Quikscript. I made the switch to
Quikscript, after reading its manual, because I became convinced that
Mr. Read had made some significant improvements over Shawscript,
especially in regards to handwritten script and the simplification of
some of the Shawscript symbols. Now, it is a little dismaying to find
people interested in promoting the use of Shawscript, making fonts
available in it, etc. and ignoring what I have felt to be the improved,
second version of Shawscript, i.e. Quikscript.

This is probably a futile question, but does anyone know of a
downloadable font for Quikscript? It would really be nice to be able
to type in Quikscript on my computer for office files, etc.
Previously, I sometimes use Quikscript in my business, but it has
always been for handwritten notes.

All the best to everyone.
