Not even if the syllable is unstressed, as in "arrange"?

Hi Philip
Thanks for providing a clear sample word that demonstrates where
the sound of the "Array" letter, can be used at the beginning of a
word.
I defininately use that sound when I pronounce ar-ise and ar-range,
but
not arouse. I make the syllable break at a-rouse and ca-rouse, so I
use
ado instead of array for those words.
Perhaps, Ethan, as he mention earlier (Every second or third letter)
make consistent use of the Ado sound at the beginning of the word,
rather than the "array" sound. Syllable boundaries are important in
Shavian.
Clarification or confirmation? Anyone?
Regards, Paul V.
P.S. I could make an attempt at providing a guide for simplified
English pronunciation, with standard rules for syllable boundaries,
if anyone is curious.
It might sound a little mechanical, but it would be clear to our
American cousins.
It would also simplify when to use the Extra R-sound letters in Shaw.

Syllable boundaries involving "r" are places where I'm also often
unsure whether to use the rhotic letter or non-rhotic letter + r,
especially since my native 'lect is non-rhotic.

That's right. I use Ado followed by Roar in all of those words.
Basically, for me it's a-rouse, ca-rouse, a-rise, a-range, a-ray. For
me, BettER and URge are unaccented and accented R-colored mid vowels.
Where Ado is a schwa, BettER (Array) is a "schwer", that is, a
*retroflex* schwa. Up and Urge have a similar relationship.

I should probably mention here that for me at least, replacing a Better
or Urge with some vowel + Roar looks really strange - about on a par
with spelling the word "rule" as "rawl" (ra-wl), or "seek" as "sayk"
(sa-yk). That is to say, it looks like a schwa + semivowel combo, as
Roar is a semivowel in most English dialects. How would you pronounce
"wl" or "yk"? How should I pronounce "rk" or "rn"? So my
recommendation is, in spite of the temptation, don't replace Better or
Urge with "Ado Roar" (a-r').

Sure, go ahead. At the very least it might give someone some ideas.
Standards for Shavian need not be rigid, so long as it's not too far out
there. Remember, though, General American is not necessarily simpler
than BBC English. Personally I think BBC English is simpler, at least
where rhoticism comes in. Perhaps you could make up a simplified style
for RP, perhaps a non-rhotic style. I wouldn't mind reading how you speak.

Correct.

Hee -- Gmail doesn't honour the background colour, so your text was
white-on-white :) But a secondary email account made it legible.

Ideally, though, someone could come up with a similar program that
uses white-on-black images.

Cheers,

Question: How can Urge be unstressed if it is a one syllable word? If
you are going to use an example of a schwer, it should be on a multi
syllable word.
