196:0.3
Jesus did not cling to faith in God as would a struggling soul at war
with the universe and at death grips with a hostile and sinful world; he
did not resort to faith merely as a consolation in the midst of
difficulties or as a comfort in threatened despair; faith was not just
an illusory compensation for the unpleasant realities and the sorrows of
living.

On KDE3.5, I either see nothing or 2 boxes, but in KDE4, I actually see peep.
I think the deal is that KDE uses some antiquated foundation library, but is
upgrading to the current (as in not '90's) version, so I should only have to
wait 'til January for plane 1 support (and I can play with KDE 4 apps 'til
then=)

That's good to know. I had all but given up on KDE ever getting proper
Unicode support. So now you can use GTK2/Gnome and KDE4 apps with
Shavian. Unfortunately, last I knew Mozilla apps won't let you write in
Shavian, so you have to use an editor that works and copy and paste into
your Mozilla-based app. I actually filed a bug report on that back in
2005, but they are slow...

I write as a Shaw admirer who has only discovered this group late in
the day (I don't recall reference to it by the ISS).
I am a member of the http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GBShaw_and_Friends/
which is apparently defunct. I am not particularly an aficionado of
the Alphabet, though curious, but I and Barbara Pfeifer have set up an
occasional journal of Shaw studies called Shavings, at
www.oscholars.com. We are happy to add names to our e-mailing list for
alerts to new issues. We also have a yahoo group,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oscholarship/.
I look forward to learning more about GBS.

Welcome!

I'm afraid you'll probably find little discussion of GBS himself on
this list; the predominant topic is the Shaw alphabet, typically
without reference to Shaw himself (or even Kingsley Read or others
involved in it).

Thomas,
Very nice! But I *hate* your page heading, viz.:
"(ð`œ)ð`¯ð`´ð`¥ ð`¦ð`¯ ð`ž ·ð`–ð`±ð`ð`³ð`¯ ð`©ð`¤ð`"ð`³ð`šð`§ð``
or
Doing apparently silly things in GNOME
which might actually prove useful"
It made me run around trying different encodings to get rid of all
those empty square boxes - only to discover that you had indeed used
UTF-8, which is how IE originally displayed it to me - and that NO
available encoding made the boxes readable. Grrr!
Your little jokes aside - thanks for the reference to ConScript
(link: http://www.evertype.com/standards/csur/). It was also amusing
to follow their link to the Unicode range U+10450-U+1047F (link:
http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U10450.pdf) where I discovered that
the Shavian Letter NUN is a ... Vowel!

Yahya

I think that reflects more on IE's (or your fonts', or your OS's)
support for Plane 1 characters than on the web page.
