In Sonnet VII, the last couplet reads:

Shouldn't the last line be:

"Unlook'd on, diest unless thou get a son"?

And wondrous things they are! In an effort to help with the
proof-reading, I've just read the first 21 sonnets consecutively, and am
struck by two things:

1. That Sonnets I - IXX are all arguments that: "My love, thy beauty
shall wither under Time's tyrant blast; yet may'st thy beauty yet
endure, should thou but choose t'engender a son in thine own sweet
image."

2. That Sonnet XX, given below, would have done credit to Oscar Wilde,
who famously lamented on "The love that dare not speak its name". Would
Shakespeare's time have been as cruel as Wilde's? It seems unlikely,
had Shakespeare dared to have these sonnets published while still
living, for they - and most particularly this one - declare his love to
be a man ("since [Nature] prick'd thee out for women's pleasure") with a
woman's heart.

A woman's gentle heart, but not acquainted

I've accumulated a large number of ad-hoc transliteration scripts over the
years. A while ago, I decided to merge them all into one program, so that I
could share them easily with other people. After some delay, I've released
the first rough version of the script, which I call *bernard* (credit to
Jeremy K for thinking of the name). Bernard has been used to good effect in
the Shavian translation of GNOME.

You can read the current documentation, such as it is, at:

This gives you a rough overview, but there are several features as yet
unimplemented which are mentioned there, and a few features which
*are*implemented which aren't mentioned. The majority of my
transliteration
scripts are still not merged into bernard: this version is "release early,
release often".

In case you don't have a setup which allows you to run bernard, I was
thinking of making a web interface. You would be able to upload files and
download the transliterated versions. However, this would take time away
from adding new features to the main version. Would this be useful for
anyone?

There may be new versions of the script coming in the next few weeks; please
let me know what features you'd find useful from the unimplemented features
list (or any other features you'd like).

Transliterators

The Unifon group developed a text converter that displayed the special
characters as long as you accessed it with MS Internet Explorer.
You should be able to do the same with the Shaw Alphabet.

GP Table Unifon-IPA correspondences


This is not the most advanced converter but if you had something similar
it would be useful since you do not have to download the font to view.

The downside is that when you copy and paste, you end up with the
keyboard code rather than the special character.

Both Unifon and Shavian have Unicode descriptions but I don't know how
to take advantage of this.

Hi there !

I downloaded "Shaw Sans 2 TTF font"
so where please do I find a keyboard layout to match this ?

I found a layout within this group, but the mapping does not match the characters that appear on screen

Does someone have a blank keyboard diagram to send me please ?
Then I could do the layout to match the font.
( yes, I could perhaps design/draw my own blank K/B layout
( but ... no point in re-inventing wheel if there is
already a blank chart out there please ?
