Wonderful, I would probably buy it for any price under $50 but it obviously deserves a wider audience so to be competitive if you can get it in print for under $2.50 in Trade paperback, something we have previously done with a private publication of a text book, then you could price it at $19.99 with room for discounting. Thanks for all the hard work. I look forward to seeing it.

Traditional spelling will be on the left, Shaw version on the right. The book will also include the Shaw Alphabet guide at the back as well as an explanatory section on aspects of the transliteration that I found it difficult to wrap my head around so that it'll be easier for other people to learn. Not only is there Shaw text in English, but also limited sections in French, Spanish, German, Russian, Latin, Italian and Ancient Greek (VERY limited in some cases) to really show off the diversity of the alphabet. All told, the book is 400 pages long and took over 9 years to complete.
> My questions to all of you are given all of the above, what do you feel would be a reasonable cover cost? Also, should this book be published in trade paperback format or hardcover? Feel free to e-mail the answers if you don't want to post them here. Thanks in advance for your input.

Congratulations!

Wow! Where did you get a book published for that cheap? The best price I've seen is $12.90 at Lulu. Sadly, trade paperback would make the font too small to really appreciate, so I had to scale everything up to letter size as Lulu doesn't support B5 paper, which of course jacks up the price per book. Best estimate, going through Lulu, the best I'd be able to manage would be about $25 for the book, which the site would probably jack up further to about $30 Canadian. Any way to get this down would be greatly appreciated.

Done. It includes 3 samples from my book: Eldorado, The Philosophy of Furniture (really), and The Sphinx. These 3 were chosen because they're reasonably small, almost nobody knows about them and they help to show off Poe's versatility.

Thanks, dude! I really appreciate it. :-)

At 3:15am this morning, I placed an order for the very first copy of Poe Meets Shaw: The Shaw Alphabet Edition of Edgar Allan Poe. It's supposed to arrive some time within 3-5 days (hopefully 3 so I might be able to order more in time for Christmas). As soon as I confirm that the proof copy is OK, I'll be opening it up for general sale through Lulu, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Ingram (the catalogue used for brick and mortar stores). I'll let you all know how it goes as soon as I get a chance to check it out.

Hey all. I've got copies submitted to Lulu and the first of them is on its way, but in its current format it's going to be somewhat pricey (about $37). As a result, I've decided to release a second version side by side which will be drastically condensed with Shaw text ONLY without the traditional spelling safety net. What I'd like to know is, what's the smallest size Shavian text that you can all read reliably? I've uploaded 2 new files called "Poe Meets Shaw Test Letter" and "Poe Meets Shaw Test A4" for our friends across the pond using another work from the book (Cabs) ranging from 6 to 12 point fonts. The entire file is one side of one sheet in both formats. I'd appreciate it if you can download a copy (whichever is appropriate for your printer), print it out and let me know which is the smallest font size/paragraph number you can read without having to struggle with it. With your help, I'll easily be able to get the condensed version under $20, quite possibly $15 or even $10. Thanks in advance for your help.

Please, everyone, I could really use your assistance on this. I know that you're all probably really busy getting ready for Tuesday, but I'd like to get this version published by the end of the year as well if at all possible. In order to do so, I need to have the order submitted by no later than tomorrow morning (even then may not be soon enough if they shut down the printers over the stat), and if possible I'd like to get the order submitted tonight. If I don't hear back from anyone, I'm going to err on the side of caution and make it a 10 point font which appears to be a standard default in the industry. If so, the book would be about 120-130 pages, or about the size of your average graphic novel. If I can shrink it down to 9, however, it'll drop down to about 110 pages and I should be able to shave of at least $2 from the cover price. Smaller fonts will allow me to drop it even more, so please let me know the smallest font you can read in the file ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Being rather long in the tooth with the foggy eyes as well I opt for a larger font but I can guarantee you that there will not be much of a market in my age demographic, Over 80s ! Go with you gut on this one.

At 11:22:47am today, I got the first copy of Poe Meets Shaw to run off the press. It looks really sweet, with a high gloss cover and paper that's so bright that it looks like it glows from within with absolutely pristine lettering. As for customer service, pretty much every single message that I sent to them got answered in comprehensive detail within about half an hour at the outside. If anyone else here is wanting to publish their own Shaw books, I can't recommend Lulu highly enough.
I can't put it up for sale yet, however, as I submitted a revision to Lulu to help reduce the cost. The copy I got was in letter format. The new version will be in A4. If I kept it in letter format, I would have had to make the price about $42 instead of $37. If all goes well, I should get the first copy of the A4 revision within a week and will put it up for sale as soon as I can.
I also made a video of the box opening and was going to upload it to my web site, but it's about 1GB long. If anyone here knows of any free video editing software which will allow me to compress it and preferably also convert it to a video format other than QuickTime, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
