Yahoo has inserted a new cover page for their Shaw
Alphabet site. It is now necessary to sign in in order
to view group correspondence, which I don't recall
as being necessary previously. They also assert that
attachments are possible, which I had thought
uncertain or unreliable. This is a test, in two variants:

Bookstores can order copies at a discount from the publisher.

In his will, George Bernard Shaw left instructions (and some funds) for the development of a new regular alphabet for the English language. A design by Ronald Kingsley Read was chosen. In 1962, Shawโ€™s play "Androcles and the Lion" was printed in what became known as the Shaw Alphabet, or Shavian. This edition of "Aliceโ€™s Adventures in Wonderland" is written entirely in that same alphabet, with fonts specially designed by Michael Everson.

A page with links to Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk is available at http://www.evertype.com/books/alice-en-Ewel.html . Bookstores can order copies at a discount from the publisher.

Doug Ewell devised the Ewellic alphabet in 1980, as a form of secret writing. A decade later, after Ewell had become a supporter of the Unicode Standard, he worked to improve his alphabetโ€™s character repertoire and encoding. Ewellic is a phonemic alphabet, like Shavian, Unifon, and shorthands such as Pitman and Gregg. With fonts specially designed by Michael Everson, this edition of Aliceโ€™s Adventures in Wonderland is written entirely in this unique featural alphabet.

David,

This is in response to the quotation from Abraham Lincoln that you sent me.

Unfortunately, I only know the Shavian alphabet for Esperanto, so I was not able to make much headway on the quotation in English. Nevertheless, I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I was not able to understand all the letters in your return address. "Rustha Karv." (circle over the "a")?

My e-mail address is ejfelker@dslextreme.com.

Best wishes,
Erik

Hello Erik,

The sample sent was only meant to display an
example of one person's own idiosyncratic style.
You may have noticed slight differences in the
handwriting of the correspondents in your
Esperanto club; such is inevitable--we all do the
best we can, more or less, but personal preferences
combined with limited abilities and lack of time will
as a rule produce identifiable handwriting styles--
whichever alphabet one uses, which is really a good
thing don't you think?

The รฅ is actually called a-ring, and is pronounced 'oh'.
You can ignore it.

regards,
ds
