I'm not certain about this, but the voicing of TH should follow a pattern
similar to that of S. Between vowels or next to voiced consonants it will
likely be voiced. Of course, it also tends to be voiced in initial position
and voiceless in final position, which is just the opposite. And there are
the exceptions. I don't know of any consistent way to determine whether it
will be voiced or not, but I also don't know of any minimal pairs that rely
on the distinction, except in dialects that have the pin-pen merger which
still distinguish them in the words "then" and "thin". But such mergers
aside, does anybody else know of any minimal pairs?

The closest minimal pair I know of for two th phonemes is wreath (noun) vs.
wreathe (verb). Unfortunately the other noun/verb pairs had funny things happen
to them in the 18th century sound shift - bath/bathe, breath/breathe etc. -
Another is thou (archaic 2nd person singular pronoun) and thou (short for
thousand).

Apple's Mail.app displays all but the last line in a Shavian font.
