I thought that someone had probably worked on this transcription.

This document appears to transcribe 2/3's of the address.

I was able to get to the code but I did not have the correct
font installed to interpret it.

I downloaded the font for Windows that was on the page which I
presume will work once I get it fully installed.

My name's Lee and I'm new to this Shavian eGroup. The following is my try at Shavian, also attached is a pdf file in case you can't read the LionsPaw font, hope this helps.

I've also tried to read the web pages that Scott Harrison put up, at http://www.mithrandir.com but can't figure out how to get his unicode fonts to work on my Mac.

Scott Harrison, if you see this, I'd really like to view your web pages if you can give me some pointers on how to get the fonts to display on my Mac. I only get question marks. I wrote you before, but didn't get a response. Write me at leehickenlooper@....

I used a modified CMU dictionary and Andy Callaway's Rosetta phonic translator on my Mac, running a emulator called Virtual PC with Windows 98. Andy's Beta Rosetta program seems to work fine! I just wish I could translate native on the Mac, but can't find anyone yet who will share or sell their Macintosh translation program to me.

Finding myself trapped in a small retirement town in Alabama the last few months, I impetuously ventured to the local library in search of a copy of "Androcles and the Lion" which I hadn't read since I was 16.

The only copy there was an odd little black book, with silver embossing.

Little did I know it was the ur-text of your group.

For the next three weeks, I enjoyed the little book, writing practice sentences every day and thoroughly amusing myself. I started a little Shavian database/dictionary/concordance; even started a Basic program to transcribe Shavian to pidgin English. But eventually I grew sad, thinking how futile it was to learn to write a script that no one else in the world could read..

Then - as it is with so many thiings in life these days - the internet came to the rescue, and I discovered websites, fonts, texts, trivia, and, finally, your happy band.

I don't want to be borish with a flood of naive questions, but I will venture this queery:

Does anybody know how Mr. Shaw's will got revoked? It would seem that England has enough eccentrics in it, - GBS being one of its most famous - that they would respect and even admire his last, Quixotic wish. It's not like he left his millions to a pack of cats, or a goldfish.

And imagine the world today if, every time they showed My Fair Lady on the late movie, another copy of Androcles could be placed in a library somewhere.

PS: As a happy ending to the story, I returned the ur-text to the Alabama Head Librarian and told her personally what a find she had on her shelves. She is now placing it in the rare books collection, where I intend to visit it religiously on my sojourns in the South.

Can someone please tell me why some of the stuff that is in this
group is in a proper Shavian font on my computer, and some of it
isn't. The stuff that isn't is just a bunch of garbled Roman
characters.
